The machine tool sector plays a critical role in the transformation of industrial production

While cost and financing pressures in industrial production are making investment decisions more selective, the importance of investments in efficiency and technology is growing. GNC Makina Chairman Gökhan Çetinkaya stated that investments in technology, automation, and high-precision manufacturing are critical for manufacturers to maintain their competitiveness.

Efficiency, cost management, and technological transformation are coming to the fore in Turkish industry. According to TurkStat data, industrial production declined by 1.4% year-on-year in June 2026, while manufacturing industry production fell by 1.5%. On a monthly basis, total industrial production rose by 0.1%, whereas manufacturing industry production remained unchanged.

The Istanbul Chamber of Industry Turkey Manufacturing PMI also fell to 47.1 in June 2026, remaining below the 50-point threshold and marking the 27th consecutive month of contraction in the sector. The report highlighted the decline in new orders, price pressures, and geopolitical developments.

Efficiency takes center stage in investment decisions

Noting that fluctuations in industrial production have made investment decisions more selective, GNC Makina Chairman Gökhan Çetinkaya stated that manufacturers are prioritizing efficiency and competitive advantage alongside capacity expansion.

“In this period, where cost and financing conditions are increasingly decisive, manufacturers are focusing on the return on investment, production quality, and operational efficiency. Technology investments are evolving into a strategic tool that not only boosts capacity but also preserves competitiveness.”

Machine tools accelerate the transformation of production
Emphasizing that the role of machine tools in the industry's technological transformation has strengthened alongside the growing need for efficiency, precision, and automation in manufacturing, Çetinkaya pointed out that CNC technologies, automation, and digital solutions directly impact manufacturers' competitiveness.

“Machine tools should not be viewed merely as machines that perform production; they are among the fundamental technologies that determine the industry's manufacturing capabilities. Thanks to CNC technologies, automation, and digital solutions, manufacturers can achieve higher precision, shorter cycle times, and lower error rates. Particularly in sectors requiring high precision—such as automotive, defense and aerospace, mold making, and general machinery manufacturing—these technologies are becoming key determinants of production quality and competitiveness.”

Stating that the transformation in manufacturing technologies in the coming period will not be limited to machinery investments alone, and that integrated production systems—where machines communicate with each other, production data is monitored in real-time, and maintenance processes become more predictable—will gain greater importance, Gökhan Çetinkaya said: “Digitalization in the industry has moved beyond being merely a standalone technology choice. We are talking about a holistic transformation for manufacturers where efficiency, quality, energy usage, maintenance, and resource management are addressed together. With the increased integration of artificial intelligence and data analytics into production processes, the transition toward a system where data derived from machines is utilized more effectively in production decision-making will accelerate.”
We focus on providing end-to-end solutions to manufacturers.

Stating that they expect efficiency, technology, and operational sustainability to play a more prominent role in manufacturers' investment decisions in the second half of 2026, Çetinkaya noted that GNC Makina would continue to develop solutions facilitating manufacturers' access to technology throughout the remainder of the year.

“We believe that efficiency and technological competence will become increasingly important factors in the investment decisions of industrial players in the second half of 2026. At GNC Makina, we will continue to closely monitor manufacturers' needs and facilitate their access to the right technology, the right solutions, and robust technical support. We believe that the future of manufacturing will be shaped by technology, strong partnerships, and a skilled workforce, and we remain committed to supporting investments that boost the competitiveness of Türkiye's industrial sector.”
